Prescriptions and prescription fee

Prescriptions are available from our practices.
You may obtain relevant veterinary medicinal products from your veterinary surgeon OR ask for a prescription and obtain these medicines from another veterinary surgeon or a pharmacy.
Your veterinary surgeon may prescribe relevant veterinary medicinal products only following a clinical assessment of an animal under their care.
A prescription may not be appropriate if your animal is an in-patient or immediate treatment is necessary.
You will be informed, on request, of the price of any medicine that may be prescribed for your animal.
The general policy of our practices is to re-assess an animal requiring repeat prescriptions for/supplies of relevant veterinary medicinal products every 12 months, but this may vary with individual circumstances. The standard charge for a re-examination is £53.
Further information on the prices of medicines is available on request.

A veterinary prescription fee covers various aspects of the prescription process, including the veterinarian’s time spent assessing the pet, reviewing its medical history, and deciding on the appropriate medication. It also includes the time required to accurately write the prescription, print it, and apply any necessary stamps or signatures. Additionally, the fee accounts for administrative tasks, such as updating the pet’s medical records, managing medication inventory, and processing related paperwork. Communication with the pet owner, including explaining how to administer the medication and addressing any questions or concerns, is also part of this service. Overall, the fee ensures that the prescription process is thorough, accurate, and compliant with legal requirements, ultimately supporting the pet’s health and safety.

Insurance handling admin fee

We understand that dealing with insurance paperwork can be a hassle, especially when you’re focused on your pet’s health. To take this burden completely off your shoulders, our team is happy to go the extra mile and manage the entire claim submission for you. For a nominal administrative fee of just £18—a small contribution towards the significant time our expert team spends meticulously preparing your documents and ensuring everything is in perfect order—we handle everything. This popular service is, of course, complimentary for our Healthy Pet Plan members.

However, if you prefer to avoid this fee, submitting your own claim is a process that puts you in control. We are happy to provide you with all the necessary documentation, allowing you to handle the claim directly with your provider and keep the savings in your pocket.
