Offline tips for smooth online

Moving from Offline to Online - read more>

There's a few things to consider when moving your offline edit to an online system. Here's a few things to look out for.

Graphics and Titles

Make sure any graphics you used at the offline are available on disk or USB for re-import at the online. Also, don't forget that titles are created on the edit machine, which is a computer in its own right with an individual collection of fonts available. You need to make sure the online computer has the same fonts available to re-create titles at online quality. There may be differences in font rendering between Macs and PCs, and even between different versions of the same font, so it's possible the titles will still look slightly different.

Effects

Check that any special software for effects or filters, such as third-party plug-ins, are available on the edit system you're moving to. If it's a different NLE, these will very likely look quite a bit different on the new system. It's a good idea to make an EDL of your sequence, just to see what it reports for effects the sequence may contain. Avid lists AVX plug-ins here, or from version 3.5 onwards, you can get a list by doing Get Info on the sequence and setting up the dialogue.

Or ignore all of the above and leave it to us! - Hassle free editing is one of many perks at VET.
