Course Outline
This innovative new course is designed to provide extended continuing professional development to suit the working editor by combining valuable hands-on classes with remote support from a tutor. It provides an injection of Avid or FCP skills at intermediate level plus real-world craft editing and creative, constructive feedback from an editor with over 20 years experience.

Course Type
Participants have access to a collaborative web space which allows them to upload and view their edited sequences. The tutor is available for a period of a month and will use this shared space to provide appraisal and comments. The extended period allows editors to fit the study into their work schedule and lifestyle commitments. The initial masterclass is followed by a month of self study with virtual on-line access to expert editor / tutor for ongoing feedback with a concluding one day workshop.

  • Understanding terminology used in the edit suite
  • Taking an edit from rough cut to fine cut
  • Organising material efficiently
  • Importing stills, graphics, movies and audio elements
  • Using effects appropriately
  • Implementing requests and notes given by a director/producer
  • Evaluating and making appropriate changes to own work in progress
  • Responding to feedback and create a fine cut
  • Playout to tape and export files in different formats

This course is aimed at
This course is ideal for intermediate editors on Avid or FCP. Junior editors, assistant editors and those aiming to extend their range of creative skills. Producers and directors who may previously have used an editor, but are now required to edit themselves.

Prerequisites
Participants will already have editing experience and wish to professionalise their work and develop their creative editing by self study through on-line learning. Access to editing software is required.
