Funders

Skillset is the Sector Skills Council for the Audio Visual Industries (broadcast, film, video, interactive media and photo imaging). Jointly funded by industry and government, they make sure that the UK industry has the right people, with the right skills, in the right place, at the right time. They approve and accredit courses and training providers on the basis of quality and relevance to industry. Click the Skillset logo for more information on funding and training.

Apply for Screen Bursaries directly via Skillset: Bursaries of up to 80% of the costs of training, up to a maximum of £800, are available to freelancers and employees in the UK’s audiovisual industries and supports existing professionals to undertake training in the following areas:

  • Business Skills
  • Technical and Craft Skills
  • Health and Safety

The scheme, a joint initiative by Skillset and Film London, will run until the end of March 2008 and can be used for attending VET courses not already covered by Skillset’s Film Skills Fund or TV Freelance Fund.

Booking terms and conditions

  1. Bookings must be made in writing.
  2. Places cannot be confirmed unless the booking is accompanied by a minimum deposit of 50% of the course fee.For bookings of funded places the deposit is 100% of the funded rate fee.
  3. Full settlement must be made 3 working days prior to the commencement of training.
  4. VET will e-mail confirmation of booking upon receipt of the deposit.
  5. Joining instructions will be sent directly to the individual trainees nearer the date of the course.
  6. VAT invoices will be sent by post nearer the date of the course.
  7. VET reserves the right to cancel courses at any time and to transfer confirmed bookings to rescheduled dates. Clients unable to attend the rescheduled course will be entitled to a refund. In the event of client cancellation notice received less than 7 working days prior to commencement of training VET reserves the right to impose a 50% cancellation fee. When notification is less than 3 days the cancellation fee is 100% of the full course fee.

How to book

  1. Click on the scheduled course you are interested in.
  2. Click on the course date of your choice.
  3. For 'Order number', put 1 should you not have one.
  4. Funded rates are denoted with an * after the price. For the criteria and to see if you qualify, tick funded rate on the booking form.
  5. Complete and submit the on-line booking form. To book more than one place on the same course click on 'Book another place' when that option appears.
  6. On receiving your on-line form, someone in the training department will contact you for payment. See our Booking Terms and Conditions.

Intermediate Avid Editing

£630 or £520* ex. VAT

Book:

  • This 3-day course is aimed at people who have either completed Avid 101 and have not used the system for a while, or who are self-taught in editing on Avid.
  • You’ll have access to an Avid system and will work partly with a tutor and partly on a self-study project.
  • You will learn how to organise material efficiently, how to cut sequences in different styles, how to digitise from tape and how to create basic effects. You will also learn to use more advanced tools on Avid including audio tools, and will learn to evaluate and make appropriate changes to your own work.
  • The tutor will provide input on course days 1 and 3. You will spend course day 2 on an editing assignment of your own choice. Your questions from day 2 will form the starting point for discussions and demonstrations with the tutor on day 3.
